If you’re like most folks, you’ve ended up with more candy than you want or need after Halloween. An excess of candy isn’t good for your smile – or your waistline. Fortunately, your dentist has some good ideas for leftover candy.

If you need to make an appointment, call Trobough Dental today at 702-757-3703. In the meantime, check out our tips for what to do with a surplus of candy.

  • Freeze It – Many candies freeze well. You can thaw it out and eat whenever you’d like. In fact, many candy bars taste great right from the freezer. No thawing needed! If you’re trying to avoid eating too much, stow it behind some other stuff so it’s less visible.
  • Reduce and Use in Recipes – You can chop up candies into small bits and bake it into cookies, brownies, and other treats. Or try this recipe for a homemade Blizzard. Doing this certainly won’t help you cut calories, but it is a bit better for your teeth.
  • Take It to Work – Put a bowl of candy on your desk at work for coworkers and clients to help themselves. Or leave it in the breakroom. There aren’t many workplaces where candy won’t vanish pretty quickly!
  • Recycle It for Other Holidays – If your candy isn’t in Halloween-themed wrappers, you can reuse it for Christmas stockings or gift bags. You can also use it to decorate gingerbread houses or cookies.
  • Pass It On to Others – Put a container of candy on your porch with a note for delivery drivers to help themselves. Or give some to flight attendants as you board the plane. You can also inquire at nursing homes, homeless shelters, and other facilities where residents might welcome sweet treats.
