DOES YOUR SMILE LACK SPARKLE? IT MAY BE TIME TO WHITEN YOUR TEETH

Even if you are brushing and flossing every day, you might feel like your smile is lacking some sparkle or has become more yellow than it used to be. Over time, your teeth can go from white to not-so-bright for a number of reasons including the food and drink you consume, tobacco use, age, trauma, and medications.

Food and Drink
Coffee, tea and red wine are just some of the major staining culprits. What do they have in common? Intense color pigments called chromogens that attach to the white, outer part of your tooth

Tobacco Use
Two chemicals found in tobacco create stubborn stains: Tar and nicotine. Tar is naturally dark. Nicotine is colorless until it’s mixed with oxygen. Then, it turns into a yellowish, surface-staining substance.

Age
Below the hard, white outer shell of your teeth (enamel) is a softer area called dentin. Over time, the outer enamel layer of your teeth can get thinner and more of the yellowish dentin shows through.

Trauma
If you’ve been hit in the mouth, your tooth may start to change color. This is because the tooth is dying and no longer contains blood supply.

Medications
Tooth darkening can be a side effect of certain antihistamines, antipsychotics and high blood pressure medications. Young children who are exposed to antibiotics like tetracycline and doxycycline when their teeth are forming (either in the womb or as a young child) may have discoloration of their adult teeth later in life. Chemotherapy and head and neck radiation can also darken teeth.

Using the latest in tooth whitening technology, a visit to our office can make your smile brighter than ever before. Tooth whitening can correct tooth discolorations caused by staining, aging, or even chemical damage to teeth. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, whitening may not be enough, but we are happy to discuss alternative options to fit your needs.

Teeth Whitening Options
We are excited to bring you the latest advancement in whitening technology by use of a dental laser! Our office recently purchased a dental laser which is used to effectively whiten your teeth in as little as 20 minutes! But the greatest benefit of laser teeth whitening besides noticing results immediately after the procedure, is there is significantly less or zero sensitivity. Our hygienist, Samantha, can tell you from personal experience, whitening can often create tooth sensitivity, but when she completed the laser teeth whitening procedure, she experienced zero sensitivity!

In addition to in-office laser teeth whitening, we still have at-home teeth whitening with custom-fit trays available.

  • In-Office Laser Teeth Whitening methods are performed with a bleaching gel and laser energy. This is the most effective method of teeth whitening for sensitive teeth. The teeth are carefully isolated from the lips and gums, and then a bleaching gel is applied to them. A laser is then used in conjunction with the gel to accelerate and amplify the tooth whitening process. Results are noticed immediately after the procedure.

  • At-Home Tooth Whitening is also available. Impressions are taken to create custom-fitted trays specifically for you to take home with bleach to complete the tooth whitening process at home.

If you’re concerned about the color of your teeth, Trobough Dental can help! In just a short time, we can help you bring back that shiny, bright smile again. Schedule an appointment today! Call 702.888.1266
