Is Milk Good For Your Teeth? | Trobough Dental

January eleventh is #NationalMilkDay, an official day to celebrate this delicious white beverage that is packed with nutrients and health benefits. Yes, milk is great for your teeth and bones. When you drink milk, it helps make your teeth stronger, protects tooth enamel and fights tooth decay. It can also make your jaw stronger, which in turn could help you keep your natural teeth longer.

The Health Benefits of Milk:

  • Calcium: Builds healthy bones and teeth; maintains bone mass.
  • Protein: Serves as a source of energy; builds/repairs muscle tissue.
  • Potassium: Helps maintain a healthy blood pressure.
  • Phosphorus: Helps strengthen bones and generate energy.
  • Vitamin D: Helps maintain bones.

A cup of milk contains almost 30% of the daily requirement of calcium for adults. Milk also contains potassium and magnesium. These minerals are important for healthy bones and teeth.

If you have an allergy to milk, or it doesn’t agree with your system or diet, not to worry, there are lots of milk alternatives and other ways to get calcium in your diet. Just double-check that you are getting the same nutrient equivalents to milk. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation other foods rich in calcium include kale, soy beans, salmon, yogurt and cheese. To see a complete list, click here.

So go ahead and enjoy that cold glass of milk today with some cookies and celebrate all things milk!
